Only 150 entries left – available from Friday

The time has come: at 10:00 CET on Friday, 10 January 2024, the general round of registrations for Trofeo Kima (24/08/2024) will open, putting the legendary race’s remaining 150 entries out of a total of 350 starters up for grabs in the traditional lottery style. There’s clearly a lot of anticipation and attentive eyes will have noticed that the other 200 entries – reserved for finishers of the two official ‘certified races’ (Livigno Skymarathon & Grigne Skymarathon) –  were snatched up in just 15 minutes.

These 150 entries for Trofeo Kima will be distributed in what has become the race’s standard lottery strategy: Interested entrants must provide proof of experience in racing on technical terrain and possess a number of ITRA points (min. 650 for male athletes, 500 for females). Athletes will be accepted based on experience and performance. You need to ensure you have submitted your entry by 12 February, 2024. The race organisers then have one week to sift through the entries and determine who will be on the startline. If selected, you have until Thursday, 29 February, to finalise your registration with the full payment. You then have until Saturday, 24 August to prepare for the race. In the event of bad weather, it’ll be run on Sunday, 25 August.

The myth, the tradition, the legend: This legendary event was created by Ilde Marchetti in memory of his brother Pierangelo. For Trofeo Kima undergrads, what awaits is an iconic challenge with 52 technical kilometres, 8,400 metres of accumulative climbing and descending, and 7 Alpine passes above 2,500 metres (Passo Cameraccio at an elevation of 2,950 metres is the highest point).

In 2022, Trofeo Kima welcomed athletes from 28 different nations, with fastest on the day going to Scotland’s Finlay Wild in 6h10’14” (just seconds away from Killian Jornet’s record time of 6h09’19”) and the American Hillary Gerardi, who set a new record with 7h30’38”. As Trofeo Kima is part of the Skyrunning World Series in 2024, you can expect it to be even more hotly competitive.

Outside of the eponymous event, entries for the weekend’s other races – namely, the Kima Extreme SkyRace, Kima Trail and Minikima – will open in April.
